Apart from performing, writing and recording, I truly enjoy teaching. I take great pride and responsibility in sharing what I have learned with my students.
I have been teaching private guitar lessons for over 10 years. I taught at the Merriam School of Music in Oakville in which I attended their teaching training program. A course recognized by the University of Ottawa.
I have taught group classes, clinics and coordinated youth bands in various schools.
I have had many students who studied with me starting at a young age that continued lessons all the way through high school before attending college or university.
My private lessons are customized for each student. No matter what your goals are I can give you the tools to attain them. I teach lessons for all ages and levels. I can teach you your favourite songs or help write and record demos of your own songs. I teach theory, technique, reading, ear training and improvisation. I can teach most styles including rock, blues, jazz and acoustic fingerstyle. I can also teach beginner bass guitar.
I offer 30-minute lessons for $25 and 60-minute lessons for $40.
"It is hard to put into words all the things that Jeremy has done for my son and as a result for me. Not only was he my son's guitar teacher for over 7 years but he was a mentor, role model and friend to him. Over the years he taught Luke how to play the guitar as a child then as a young man. Jeremy was kind, patient and caring to Luke. He allowed Luke to explore his musical interests from the first session to when he helped Luke compose and put together songs to record. Jeremy was instrumental in making Luke the musician and young man he has become. As a mother, I valued every moment Jeremy spent with Luke as it was always more than just musical notes! He was the biggest asset in Luke's growing up years. Thanks Jeremy!"
"Jeremy will teach you only songs you want to learn and have the patience to help you at any level of guitar playing. He's a great guy and teacher."
"Having been to many music schools in the local vicinity, looking for an experience that would build on the intrigue of a 7-year-old towards music and expand his interest, we found the perfect dynamic with Jeremy. He is a pragmatic instructor, who has the ability to leverage the strengths of a student to build confidence, while focusing on the areas of improvement in a very structured manner, specifically catered to that student. Jeremy is extremely versatile and knowledgeable in every genre of music. And as a result, he has the ability to connect with students any age group, skill level and musical interest. Jeremy's ability to break down something very complex into appropriate building blocks specific to the student’s level of understanding is impressive. Jeremy has a passion for music. And as a result, students feed off that. Seeing my son pick up the guitar at home without any encouragement, and hammer off those riffs and techniques he has learned from Jeremy is a gratifying experience."
"If you are looking for a private guitar teacher for yourself or your children Jeremy the guy you need.
Our son attended music school before so we are able to compare.
Jeremy Stimers is very passionate about guitar and patient with students. Our son is not an easy one to teach but under Jeremy’s classes his guitar skills are becoming better and better."
"I am probably Jeremy Stimers’ oldest student in two factors.
First, in age and second, time spent as his student.
I have been with Jeremy for 8 years now on a bi-weekly basis. He has helped my guitar playing skills in so many ways. He taught me barre chords, melodies, picking techniques and songs. He really supports the aspect of me developing my own music. I give Jeremy kudos for having the patience for a student like myself."
